Garrett “Gary” Roberts was born August 3, 1953, in St. Louis, Missouri — into a family that valued responsibility, imagination, hard work, loyalty, and service.
Gary was raised by his father, William “Monty” Munro Roberts III, and his mother, Lora Roberts. He grew up with his sister, Laura, and his brothers, Tim and Peter. The Roberts siblings share a family history rooted in St. Louis and connected by decades of memories, traditions, humor, challenges, and accomplishments.
Gary attended Ladue Horton Watkins High School and later Missouri State University. His education and early military experience prepared him for a professional life requiring technical precision, independent judgment, and discretion.
Across every chapter of his life, Gary has combined two qualities that rarely appear together so strongly: the discipline to work within highly secure, technically demanding environments and the imagination to transform ordinary objects and moments into art.

In government service, Gary learned to understand places through coordinates, maps, imagery, signals, and geospatial information. In photography, he learned to understand those same places through light, composition, texture, emotion, and time. Both careers required him to notice what others might miss.
